Blood, Sweat, Tears… and Laughter!

This summer it is my great honour and privilege to initiate my twentieth teaching trip to Israel.

I have had the pleasure of working with a great many gifted and dedicated individuals, many of whom have continued to walk with me for fifteen years or more.

Each year my task has been to present a range of materials that both challenge and surprise the course participants but which also guarantee continuity and development in areas of study already embarked upon.

One important feature of the workshops is the aspect of overlap. Each individual part of every session needs to complement the aim as a whole – the development of the individual within the group and the gradual deepening of the group research into energy and its effects on the body and psyche.

As the years have come and gone, a pattern has established itself: In the morning sessions we focus on the ultra traditional Taiji Chuan as developed by the Chen family. We focus on preparation, nuances of motor skills, form, flow and precision and each year we introduce new aspects of practice either from within the Chen family repertoire or from related arts.

Last year we introduced the San Ti standing position from Xing Yi Chuan, another internal martial art. This year we will incorporate the Eagle’s claw movement as it was integrated into Xing Yi practice in China’s Henan province.

The afternoon sessions are devoted to energy practice – Qigong. Having practised for over thirty years, it has happened that my own experiences have led to new techniques, even to whole new movement programmes, which it is my humble but wholehearted pleasure to share with the group. The exercises range from extremely minimal reclining movements to full scale aerobic exertion with every possible micro-variation in between.

The broader the range and the deeper the level of our research, the more we come to understand life energy in all its forms.

Welcome to a group dedicated to Blood, Sweat, Tears… and plenty of Laughter!
- Chris McAllister

The workshop is open to all, long time practitioners and complete beginners alike.

The Teacher - Chris McAllister:
A teacher and practitioner of healing, movement & martial arts. Chris studied in England, USA, Netherlands, China and Japan with some of the best teachers in the world (Nigel Dawes, Ted Kaptchuk, Takeo Suzuki, Peter Yates, Goa Luo Hua, etc.). He was trained in Japan, China and Europe as a zen shiatsu, acupuncture and herbal medicine therapist, and specialized in China over nine years in Qi - Gong and martial arts. Currently, he serves as the representative of Sweden Association shiatsu Union and President of the European Shiatsu Association. His pleasant teaching approach brings a joyful and refreshing understanding of the eastern life and life as a western.

The venue:
The workshop will be held in VERTIGO Eco Art Village, which is a center for art and ecology located between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv (about a 30-minute drive from both) in Israel’s scenic Ellah Valley. At its heart is the Vertigo Dance Company, which founded the Village in order to foster artistic creation engaged with the environment.

Where we practice:
The Eco village has a fabulous wooden floor hall, with big windows and an ecological ventilation/cooling system, in which we will have our daily practices.

Down Time and Meals.
Outside and around the hall is a marvelous terrace fully equiped with low sofas, sitting cushions and low tables. Perfect for enjoying a quiet cup of tea, overlooking the beautiful landscape. Right at the entrance to the hall there is also a lounge area and a shared kitchen with complimentary coffee, tea and snacks. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, water cooler, an electric kettle, lots of different teas and herbs, coffee and a capsule espresso machine (2NIS per capsule).

All meals will be served in the kitchen/lounge area and are included in the price. The local cooks prepare the most gracious vegetarian meals to suit any and all. They will accommodate any dietary restrictions if noted in advance (please be sure to fill these out in the registration form).

Facilities
Right next to the practice hall, is another hall which will be used for sleeping at night and resting during the day - free of charge. There we will find mattresses and silence (please be sure to bring your own bed linen - a sheet, blanket and a pillow).

Being an Ecological Village, the Vertigo center is equipped with beautifully designed compost toilets. The toilets use sawdust instead of water, and as weird as it sounds, the only smell they produce is that of woodwork.

The showers and sinks on the premises are, you guessed it, ecological as well, and the running water is used to irrigate the lovely flora of the village as part of a greywater system. We will be given some ecological soap to shower with, but you are more than welcome to use your own ecological soap.

Price: 650 EURO
